Read its story on Page The Vintage Motor Cycle Club, whose members are united by their common appreciation of the engineering skill and vision of those who built the pioneer machines, has ensured that such machines are not preserved as lifeless exhibits in a museum, but are brought to life on frequent occasions in order that a new generation can marvel at the handiwork of the pioneers, and an older generation can once again view with nostalgia the machines they rode in days gone by.
Endurance Legends Thank you to all the volunteers who helped over the weekend. Whether you donated a bike for the display, helped on the stand talking to prospective new members or sold raffle tickets.
It was busy, with a great range of machines on display, events such as Notice is hereby given of a proposal to amend the Bye-Laws of the VMCC with regard to. The Deputy will report to the Area Representative and may, with the consent of the Area Representative, represent the Area Representative in communications with the Directors and General Manager.
Revision of bye-laws is covered under Part 7 of the bye-laws, which states that the Directors have the right to make, alter and repeal bye-laws as they deem necessary or expedient for the proper conduct and management of the Club and may act accordingly. However, any such Bye-Law becomes binding only after no objection has been received during a period of 90 days from May 1st.

Tony Cowley and Matt Swindlehurst have both been appointed area reps for the North East and Midlands areas respectively. We now have a full complement of Area reps for the year.

We are looking for examiners across the UK. If you would like to help out, in the first instance please contact Vicky at library vmcc.
Travelling expenses are payable and a small fee may be available. Since my last notes the AGM has taken place and I am sure a full report will appear elsewhere within these pages. With only around people in attendance, from a membership of 15,, I am sorry so few felt the necessity to attend such an important occasion for the Club. Many congratulations to the winners of the national awards given out — all were certainly well deserved.
Next a small plea. Does anyone own or know the whereabouts of a Singer registration number NH and frame number ? I have some information which might well be of interest to the current owner. If that is you then contact me so I can pass the details on.
I have now completed the task of visiting every area of the Club and holding the Regional Meetings. It was an interesting exercise and one which I hope the attendees felt was of benefit to them and to the Club. A copy of the full report is available either on the website or from headquarters.
Many interesting items and ideas resulted and the management will be discussing these in due course. I thank everyone who attended and gave input - your contributions will be considered and acted upon in a way that we feel is in the best interest of the Club.
I have just spent another two days promoting the Club at the Stafford Show. This vast show must be one of the best in the country. Everything pertaining to motorcycling was represented and the standard of the exhibits was outstanding. Beautiful sunshine seemed to swell the attendance as many thousands of enthusiasts gathered for this twice yearly event. I fully accept that costs have become a big factor but there was the possibility to have a great deal of fun for very little money.
I enjoyed the show greatly and will return in the autumn — it is always nice to meet so many members and potential members on these occasions. Motorcycle shows and similar events are an excellent way by. This was discussed at the Regional Meetings, and one item for which headquarters can provide little extra in terms of manpower but could help with the promotional material needed to make a good stand.
If you have a show locally and your Section would consider organising and manning the stand for the good of the Section and the Club then please contact me to discuss it. You will find that manning a stand is a very social activity. This month will see the ever splendid Banbury Run. The largest event of its type and always enjoyed by yours truly. I hope to meet many of you there either as rider or spectator.
This past month I have attended six different Sections events and enjoyed each one, aided by the glorious weather down here in the deepest south. If this weather continues then we have a long and interesting summer ahead. I hope you have similar where you live — I might just turn up and join you.

Given that a lot of societies, charities and museums receive a good part of their income through donations and legacies, why does the VMCC not give more priority to these — there is currently no information on how to go about this, or how the money might be used. We have received legacies in the past, but they have been occasional and sporadic. They have always been very gratefully received and have often played a critical role in the advancement of the Club, but no concerted effort has been made to attract them.
By contast, the National Motorcycle Museum has a section of its website dedicated to this. The VMCC already accepts donations and Despite making no specific appeal, we continue to legacies, but this could be expanded to fund receive welcome donations.

How nice to think that a machine you have restored or cherished will be preserved, cared for and better still used by future generations to encourage young riders into the hobby. This then is the proposal — to work harder to attract donations and legacies to the Club, to set up the VMCC Foundation and use the income to build the new visitor centre and museum. Initial research has confirmed that this would be viable, especially in concert with a local council or a heritage trust.
Funding would be available if we rescued a building at risk or worked a preservation zone area — some councils would match us almost pound for pound on funding. The Club already receives overtures from companies who would support us a lot more, if we had a visitor centre open to the general public.
The challenges to build such a venture are considerable, and that is why we would appeal to all motorcyclists genuinely interested in preserving our history, because this need not be limited to club members. Indeed, this is another reason to create the VMCC Foundation as a separate entity — that way, no current member of the club would feel unduly obliged to donate, and no existing money within the Club would be used. This would be a new venture with new funds raised solely from people wishing to participate, and in direct response to repeated requests for just that.
The Club currently accepts donations and legacies, and this idea is simply to provide more information and support on how to do that, and to provide a cause which would provide justification.
We feel we can help in this regard and are prepared now to step up our response accordingly. The VMCC Foundation would need your help, advice, blessing and donations in order to get it off the ground.
Let us all leave a legacy that we can be proud of and that will mark us out as a generation who wanted to enable others to enjoy old motorcycles as much as we have. This accords very well with the original spirit of the Club — an unselfish, generous, honest and open organisation whose sole aim is the promotion and preservation of all old motor cycles. At the latest Banbury Run meeting attended by Ian Botham and I at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon we were told that there is going to be a massive upheaval regarding the car parking situation on site, which will mean that half of the car park we have used for the past few years as the bike park will not be available to us for the Banbury Run.
We looked at a number of options but found that the only option is to use the same car park, but because the back road we have used in the past. This will mean once the bikes are set off there will be no access down the spine road to the bike park. Harry Wiles, Clerk of the Course. The dating officer of the VMCC, in conjunction with researchers, machine examiners and expert knowledge of other specialists, will conduct a search based on the information provided by the applicant to establish the date of manufacture of a vehicle. V55/5 how to fill it in ?
As from 18th November, motor cycles manufactured before 1st January will have become exempt from the requirements to have a mandatory MOT test. This means that you no longer have to produce a valid MOT pass certificate when applying for a tax disc. Any application to tax via the Post Office or Local Office will require a completed V Declaration of exemption from MOT testing where the customer declares that their vehicle is exempt. This exemption will also apply to motor cycles where a date of manufacture is not on the DVLA system, but the date of registration is recorded as being on or before 7th January
